this is actually probably a really ridiculous post in retrospect, but there was something i was thinking about over breakfast while seeing a commercial about a tuxedo place geared towards people getting married:

does anyone in the bau have any kind of friend outside the bureau? at all?

i know one of the main focuses of the show is the fact that this team is a family and they’re all each other’s closest friends, but surely they can’t be each other’s only friends. we know they at least have neighbors that they surely talk to like reid has with ms. cavanaugh (8x13) and jj and will have in the woman that watches henry sometimes whose name escapes me at the moment (7x24). surely morgan must have a neighbor or friend who watches clooney when they’re away and hotch has to have someone like that to watch jack/bring him to and from school (jessica doesn’t necessarily live in VA, right? at least far enough away to where she can’t always watch him, so.). garcia would definitely have her friends from her troupe (and if my theory about sam is correct, she might even be currently dating one) as would blake have her colleagues from the university she teaches at.

the reason i started thinking about this because of a commercial about weddings is because one of the weddings featured looked almost identical to jj’s and i started to wonder about something: surely jj and will have other friends so what a shock it must have been for the pair to basically go “surprise, we got married!” the next time they saw them. i don’t know about you, but before i found out the fact that the wedding was basically thrown at them, i’d be a little pissed off that my “friends” didn’t invite me to their wedding.

i know that the whole point of the show is that the bau are each other’s closest confidants and some of the only people that can understand some of the things they’re going through, but i just can’t help wondering whether or not there are other people in their lives that are at least a minor comfort when they can’t get to their main group. morgan must have met some people at clubs he frequents that he stays in touch with. we know that we’ll see reid in a cafe in 8x20; maybe he frequents there and has made a few friends.

i know that sometimes a small core group of friends might be all we need in life, but surely our team has to have other people in theirs. hell, until this season it was almost implied that reid lived in the bau let alone talked to anyone like maeve outside of it. it can’t just be romantic interests that are there for them besides the bau.

maybe i’m overthinking a part of the show way too much but i just feel like there has to be times where they don’t want to confide in each other about something because of some of the consequences we’ve seen happen; if they don’t have anyone outside the bau for that, then that means they’re forcing themselves to deal with it alone.

and holy shit, that’s incredibly depressing if that’s the truth.

I actually agree and have felt that the lack of secondary,tertiary, or recurring characters on this show who represent other people in the lives of team members has been to its detriment.
